Fixed interest loans

The interest rate you pay does not change for the term of the loan. Once the term expires you can either choose another fixed loan or change to a floating interest rate loan. Fixed interest loans are advantageous when rates are low as you know that if the rate increases you will keep paying the same amount until you loan term expires.

Floating interest loans

Interest rates will go up or down according to changes in the financial markets. You have more flexibility than with a fixed interest loan and have the option of paying the loan off faster and making lump sum payments without incurring penalties. If interest rates go down you can pay your loan off faster, but if interest rates increase you can be paying higher interest than on a fixed interest loan
